Heatsick
Short fiction about throwing loose change, treasured things, even... your annoying housemates... down a well to escape the summertime heartsickness.
Made in four enjoyable hours for the ECTOCOMP 2025 La Petite Morte category!
Draws on the usual stuff for me: native bushland and decaying remnants. I really did find a well like this near my house, although my city government in real life was much more responsible and put a frame around it to stop anyone falling in.
(It probably bears mentioning that in pretty much all the sharehouses I have lived, I'm the one who has been the annoying housemate!)
Hopefully this game suggests something of how paradoxically cloistered and maddening summertime can be, in the middle of a heatwave and trapped for the most part indoors, in the dark.
