Summer Ruins
I made this short game, a sampler really, to work out a bitsy tileset themed around summertime and ruins. Crumbling concrete and archways, weeds and flowers coming up between the brickwork. But also sleepy cafes with stripey umbrellas and awnings, train stations, bookshops and boysenberry ice-cream.
Explore an unfamiliar town. Your friend is waiting up at the obelisk for some reason, but they won't mind too much if get lost along the terraces and alleyways, or look for secret hideaways by the water.
Sources for the bookshop quotes:
- Bottom shelf - Soonest Mended by John Ashbery;
- Middle shelf, left - Reagan Library by Stuart Moulthrop;
- Middle shelf, right - ZZT by Anna Anthropy; and
- Back shelf - Just This Side of Byzantium by Ray Bradbury.
I didn't pick these with any deep thought, they're just all texts I like and that feel summery to me in one way or another.
(I'll upload the tileset for download too, once it's a little tidier!)
Thanks for playing <3
