Tower climbing adventure!

Explore a crumbling ruin, visit its still-preserved museum of telecommunications, swing across the abyss on flimsy cables. Make sure to have your photo taken at the observation deck.

ZZT

This was mainly an excuse to play around with ZZT, a game making editor from the nineties with a  lovely mixture of affordances and constraints. All you've got to work with is 256 ASCII characters. But you can sure make those 256 characters dance and run around if you so want.

I made this game using Weave 3, which extends the base game in all sorts of ways. Weave 3 included a version of the Zedit2 (called Zloom2) drag and drop interface, plus a tool for compiling the web version using the Zeta emulator.

I first learned about this tool from the book ZZT by Anna Anthropy (and after seeing the impressive things she herself has made with it).

I'm stuck!

The game is designed so you shouldn't normally become unable to progress further, but there may be a few tricky things...

If people are standing in your way, trying exhausting all your dialog options with them.

If you're facing a seemingly impassable gap, you might try throwing something?

If you've run out of cabling, well, you might actually be fresh stuck, sorry. Try hunting around for more, though.

Of course, there may also be bugs and broken bits in there too! Let me know if you encounter one and I'll try fixing it.

I'm stuck at fifth camera photo screen, can't do anything, can't close it, pressed all buttons, good thing a have save not far from this. Cool art!

Is it also the end of a game? Cuz i can't go down with Mahone through lift.

Oh yeah! If you got to this point, you reached the end of the game!!! (Sorry it’s not communicated well though - I think there is a way for me coding in nZZT to properly end the game, but I couldn’t figure it out!!) I’m glad you liked the art!

One day I’ll make more zzt games and you will be able to visit the other five photo spots I promise!

That would be cool! I will wait with patience. For now i think there should be sign that will say "It's current end of game"

Also, i didn't understand how to run downloadable version of game.

The downloadable version is really more if you want to check out the source files / art. Honestly, I’m not too sure how to run it offline.

(It’s a miracle I even managed to get it working on Itch, I forgot how I did it, the second I did it).

Probably Weave 3 is your best lead!

This is great! "Abandoned tourist spot" is probably my favorite setting.

I’m really glad you enjoyed it! This means a lot to me! Funnily enough, the real life tower I based this off has always been a bit of a failure as a tourist attraction. Being that it’s the only structure on an otherwise forested mountain, it’s easy to pretend you’re wandering around a kind of postapocalyse landscape IRL too.
